Celebrating the life of

Janet Joyce Brennan

Passed away on August 07, 2023

Janet Joyce Brennan

Janet Marie Joyce Brennan Jan was born in Savannah, GA June 3 rd, 1946 to the late J. Read “Sunshine” Joyce and Margaret Weimar Joyce. She passed away at home surrounded by her family on August 7th, 2023. Jan attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and St. Vincent’s Academy until she was asked by the administration to please continue her education elsewhere. She ended up graduating from Savannah High School in 1965.

Jan married Joe Brennan, also of Savannah, in 1971 and promptly moved to Taichung, Taiwan where Joe was stationed during the Vietnam War. She gave birth to her first son, Patrick, while living in Taichung. After Joe’s time in Vietnam was up, they moved back to the U.S. Before settling in Savannah to raise their growing family of three boys, they made stops in Athens for Joe to attend Law School and Warner Robins.

Jan tried her hand at several jobs and hobbies but realized after many trips to the emergency room (twice in a day one time), and her friendly relationship with the local police, that everyone would be better off if she stayed at home full time. Jan had to sharpen her already keen sense of humor because of her boys. This sense of humor is what she will forever be remembered for. She was a beautiful, kind, and hilarious lady and an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Jangie will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jojo Joyce, and sister, Joy Joyce Carter.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Joseph P. Brennan, three sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick (Bridgett), Read (Caroline), Tim (Lizzie), and six grandchildren, Finley, Read, Thomas, Landon, Lilla, Margaret, and her brother, Pat Joyce.

There will be a visitation at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on August 9th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Rosary to follow.

The funeral service will be August 10th at 10:00 am at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist with a burial to follow at the Catholic Cemetary.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice Savannah Foundation, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416, or, The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist 222 East Harris Street Savannah, GA 31401.

I was so shocked and sad to hear of Jangie's passing. I can't imagine the loss you all feel, as I know she was the ringleader who had her hands full keeping all the Brennan boys in line. I have memories of the love and respect her guys had for her, and the quick straightening up that was done if she commanded it. She was always kind to me and carried herself with class and grace. Ill be thinking of you all during this time and sending prayers for comfort and peace. ❤️

Dear Joe and family, Tom and I are so sorry to hear of Jan’s passing. She was the light of the party or any gathering she attended, but in addition to her charm and grace, she was a warm and welcoming smile where ever she might encounter you. I, Lisa, did not grow up in Savannah but Jan contributed a lot to making me feel welcome and glad to have made Savannah my home. May the warm and loving memories of the times you shared bring you comfort in your grief. Our prayers are with you. Lisa and Tom (Gray)
